A 10-0 spot by the Medina Bees kept the Shaker Heights Red Raiders racing an up-hill mountain. The Bees hanged on to a 54-46 Greater Cleveland Conference victory.

The Bees scored the first ten points in the first quarter and led 14-2 at the end of one. The Red Raiders, missing their sophomore star Jamir Huston, fought back with a 10-point second period from senior and Eastern Michigan recruit Nailah Mitchell. The Bees led at the half, 24-21. But that is close that the Red Raiders could get.

The Bees (6-7 GCC, 12-8 overall) nearly scored the first ten points in the third.

The Bees outscored the Red Raiders on the free-throw line 25-11.

The Bees were led by junior Amanda Holzman with 12 points. She was the only Bees’ player in double-figures as well as Mitchell for the Red Raiders (6-7, 9-11).

The Bees will visit Berea-Midpark on Tuesday, while Shaker Heights will visit Laurel on the same day.
